Marketing a Plumbing Business

Developing effective marketing plans for your plumbing business will keep the new client referrals coming in and help to keep revenue levels high. The smart plumber knows that one of the best ways to get new clients is to treat your current clients right. But there are several other ways that plumbers can keep their work schedule busy with paying customers.

Start talking to real estate agents and brokers. Developing and flipping homes has become very popular, and most real estate agents are in touch with the private real estate developers that you may have not heard of before. You can also drive around to the different remodeling projects and see if the developers had placed a sign out in front of the property to advertise their business. If they did, then call the number and introduce yourself.

Networking is a strong way for plumbers to find new work as most of the plumbing work done by smaller companies is not advertised in the newspaper. That is why networking with general contractors and handyman companies can be a great way to market your plumbing business. General contractors are always looking for options for their sub-contractors, and that includes plumbers. Anyone that owns a handyman business that is not proficient in plumbing will appreciate having your contact information for future reference.

Another source of networking leads for your plumbing business is to go around to the various apartment complexes and introduce yourself to the property manager. Many apartment complexes have maintenance people that do the general plumbing work, but it always helps to have the number of a real plumber on hand for larger jobs and for times when the plumbing in several units seems to go wrong all at once.

If you start a referral program with your current customers, you may find your phone ringing more often. When you finish a job with client, hand them an informational flier that outlines your referral program. For every new customer that your existing customers refer to you that contract for a paying job, your existing customer gets a $25 or $50 referral fee. The amount is up to you. People do not mind referring a good plumber, especially if there is something in it for them.

Marketing a plumbing business takes more than an ad in the Yellow Pages or a display ad in the newspaper. You need to get out there and talk to the people that have a steady flow of plumbing work to keep your referral funnel full.
